We are having a very busy week at hour house. Between installing a new roof and replacing our whole cover patio I didn’t think I was going to have time to make any Easter treats. No, I am not doing the work myself but I am doing all the cleaning. How is it that even when everyone is working outside the house still gets so dirty?! Anyway, I still managed to surprise my girls with our favorite Sugar Cookies. These cookies were made with a little help. You know, I always like to bake everything from scratch but sometimes you just have to take a shortcut. I used Duncan Hines Creamy Strawberries N’ Cream frosting to make these cookies extra special. They turned out so beautiful! I don’t have much experience with premade frosting but this one blew me away, it is delicious!
This recipe makes a small batch of cookies, perfect for a family of 4. I normally get between 12-15 cookies, depending on the size of the cookie cutter. I also add a little almond extract to make them extra delicious.
Below is my Sugar Cookie Recipe.
Ingredients
- 6 tablespoons butter, room temperature
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon almond extract
- 1 1/4 cups all purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 can Duncan Hines Creamy Strawberries N’ Cream Frosting
- Sprinkles for decorating
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
- cream the butter and sugar together. Add the egg and almond extract. Mix.
- In a separate bowl sift together the flour, baking powder and salt.
- Gradually beat in the flour mixture into the butter mixture.
- Chill the dough for 30 minutes.
- Sprinkle some flour on a clean surface and roll the dough out and use a cookie cutter to cut into desire shape.
- Transfer the cookies to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Bake for 8 minutes until set but not brown. Transfer to a cooling rack.
- Once the cookies are completely cool spread a thin layer of strawberry frosting on each cookie and decorate with sprinkles.
- You can wait for a few minutes until the frosting sets or just devour immediately.
