Spicy Black-eyed Peas

Jump to recipe

It is New Years Eve, y’all! I have my “Spicy Black-eyed Peas” ready for tomorrow. It is a Southern tradition, and a very delicious one too. Why? Because the peas are supposed to bring you luck and prosperity in the New Year. If you add any kind of greens to the peas, the peas are supposed to represent coins of money and the greens, paper money, meaning that you will be granted financial prosperity. What do you think? I am not at all superstitious but I like the fun in it, plus, they are delicious so, Why not?

I prepared my black-eyed peas with dice onions, garlic, tomatoes and spinach. I wanted to give a little kick to the beans so In addition to salt and pepper I added chili powder and cayenne pepper. I don’t know if they will bring me financial prosperity but I’m sure I will enjoy every single pea in this bowl.

About

Hello, my name is Marisol Chancellor. I was born and raised in Monterrey Mexico. I’ve been living in Texas for 12 years, and even when I love barbeque, fruit cobblers, and sweet tea, there’s something that has the power of transporting me right back to my mom’s kitchen and gives me a little piece of home; cooking. I grew up in the kitchen and for me, memories are always linked to food, and behind the food, well, there’s always a story that comes along. So, please let me share with you my love for cooking and while we are at it, let’s share some memories, because let’s be honest, we are also hungry for nostalgia.
